Awesome to hear a new record from B.o.B, especially on this night for us personally, as just mere hours ago, we talked with the man himself at the adidas Originals store in downtown Chicago. The record though is entitled "So Hard To Breathe" and is one of the few solo tracks from B.o.B that'll appear on Strange Clouds on May 1st. Here he both raps and sings about the suffocations that come with fame over a melancholy, acoustic based production. Perfect mood-setter for B.o.B to tell an engaging story that depicts the present, reflects on his come-up, and paints a picture of the downsides fame can have, while doing so in an appealing way to the casual listener that sees all the glitz and glamour of fame.
That last aspect is key as the artist has to be careful to not come off as spoiled and B.o.B doesn't. The concept is well-executed; the chorus can relate to anyone's problems and ignites a lot of powerful images as seen in the video for the audio stream above (you'll see); the rhymes are infectious on the first listen and continues to build on the strong imagery of the chorus and production. After a few listens, "So Hard To Breathe" is already an all-caps *TIBS FAV.™ and on the short list for my favorite track off Strange Clouds thus far and for the Fav. 5 *TIBS FAVS.™ of April that'll come at the end of the month. So at this point, I'll just sit back and suggest a press of the play button above.
Take a look at our dope group photo with B.o.B from earlier tonight here in the Chi... And you know that good interview with B96's Julian On Da Radio is comin' soon...
