Above is the video premiere for one of the standout trax off of Naledge’s Mix CD, Chicago Picasso, called “Focus”. The addicting beat and easy-to-follow lyrics make for a solid song that is further enhanced by an artistic video directed by Noah Banks. In fact, the video took three weeks to reach completion as it’s comprised of over 3,000 still photos and zero video footage. Zero video footage?! That’s hard 2 believe after watchin’ the video, especially since Naledge is rapping throughout. In addition to the black and white technique, Naledge illustrates what it’s like to go thru the city of the Chi as the camera follows him on what’s seemingly a normal routine that you or I might go thru… except we wouldn’t be carrying a loudspeaker, haha. Chicago Picasso is available NOW and you can pick it up at iTunes or Amazon. Enjoy!

Mr. Hudson “Supernova” f/ Kanye West VIDEO PREMIERE
G.O.O.D. Music’s Mr. Hudson arrives on the scene with his debut video for his soon-to-be smash-hit “Supernova” f/ Kanye West. With the song already inspiring powerful imagery, I expected more than your just your average video, which the two artists delivered. There’s some Matrix-esque effects that are simply amazing to go along with the professional lighting and camera techniques that helped set the mood. Mr. Hudson gets some great face time and the circle is complete with “Supernova” – already being a strong 1st single and now having a strong video 2 match. Make sure 2 also check out Mr. Hudson’s interview w/ Complex as he talks autotune, Drake, and of course Kanye West. Down below, a trio of videos including the latest look at YP’s next video shoot, a detailed interview with Bun B, and the video premiere of R&B singer Joe’s 1st single “Magic”. Enjoy!

Trey Songz – Anticipation [MIXTAPE]
UPDATE: Yeah, Songz comes thru w/ some serious original trax. Numbers 3-6 are the best stretch of the mixtape and is easily on repeat status while the other tracks all have their moments. DL it above! (Btw, ‘Anticipation’ was a trending topic on Twitter.. haha, Trey Songz fans are crazy!)
More NEW songs from Songz! He delivers on point again with a NEW 12 track mixtape that I’ma try n get thru 2nite and provide more commentary. “U Belong To Me” is a track that leaked recently and hasn’t yet left my rotation. For the explanation of the mixtape from Trey Songz himself, check his blog, seefurtherthaniam.com. Enjoy!
Drake Signs w/ Young Money
Drake Signs w/ Young Money
For months now, since the release of his So Far Gone mixtape, Drake has been the center of attention, garnering accolades as the next big hip hop star from fans and peers alike. During this time span, Drake has remained independent… until now as MTV reports he has signed with Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money label with Universal Republic distribution. In the video above, which well documents the story and interviews some elite peers in the game, Drake also admits that you have to have major label distribution to push your records to another level. With that locked up now, and the continued success of “Best I Ever Had”, Drake is looking to make a strong splash with his debut LP, Thank Me Later, due out later this year. Check out Drake’s blog for some screens of the Kanye West-directed video for “Best I Ever Had”. Congrats 2 the Toronto native.
Down below, some new audio and video from the rest of the day, starting out with a Mic Terror / Matthew Santos collabo that, quite frankly, let me down. I was expecting more Santos than there is and it’s almost like he’s non-existant. Is it just him on the background vocals? While I’m diggin’ Mic Terror’s style and delivery throughout, I’m not really up on the song’s content and lyrics. I was hoping for an “American Terrorist” or “Superstar” type track when I peeped the artists and title but was treated with a 180.
The notable video is the latest episode of Cons TV which features Consequence’s 1st single off his upcoming, renamed LP, Cons TV, “Whatever U Want” f/ Kanye West & John Legend. The latter is in the video. Also included is NEW content from Young Chris (shouts 2 BOBO), Cam’Ron (shouts 2 Legend), and Obie Trice. Finally, peep some detailed pics at the NEW Kanye West x Louis Vuitton sneakers HERE. Enjoy!

UPDATE (4:00PM CT): ?uestlove just dropped another MJ Tribute track that The Roots did w/ Erykah Badu – a strange (but in a good way) interpretation of “Billie Jean”. Enjoy!
Another post full of MJ Tributes and I for one am not tired of it yet. The Roots & Erykah Badu linked up at the 30 Rock studios (before Jimmy Fallon) for a soulful Michael Jackson tribute that fans of the artists will certainly enjoy. It’s just more good music inspired by the fallen legend. Down below, Ma$e jumps on Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” and BET Awards ’09 performances can be seen below. I only spotlighted 2 that I especially enjoyed (out of the 328 total performances) with Ne-Yo’s being the most memorable. Truthfully, I didn’t think much of the show and switched to a re-run of Hot Rod but I know ppl were blowin’ up the Internet about it and you can get a sampling of the awards ceremony below. Enjoy!

Kanye West “Street Lights” VIDEO PREMIERE
UPDATE (2:25PM CT): Max G. was inspired by the content to add some thoughtful commentary. Here it is:
Review: Champions of Change
The 3 epicenters of change in hip hop
and music entertainment all dropped new content today for their
Internet audience! The likes include Chicago’s hometown heroes Kanye
West & Lupe Fiasco and the infamous Jay Z. It’s as if the stars
have aligned and gave a nice jumpstart to our day, because now you can
compare the changes each artist creates for culture and where they’re
headed. You better believe that what these icons are saying is going
to directly affect the change in our culture’s mindset because they are
a direct reflection of our culture’s dual nature.
Kanye West’s video “Street Lights”
personifies the powerful vision and unwavering gaze that Kanye West is
completely aware of. His video shows how focused he is in unraveling,
seeing, and manufacturing the future all in his mind, like it already
happened. Kanye’s imagination is limitless and eternal, as he passes by
in a daze living the life of the above and below. This type of video
promotes determination and powerful motivational energies for the
culture which then outputs more creativity in people.
Now mix in the addition of Lupe Fiasco
into this culture pot. His rhymes are somehow all of the following:
incredibly complex, heavily detailed, and yet still universal. A dash
of cool, streets, war, politics, & love, and you’ve got the
post-modern view through a poet’s lyrics. His new album Lasers is
on track to contain the same ideals of an urge to emit creatively -
being the best at being “you”. These snippets that he released today
are just teasers for what he himself is saying is his best work yet!
Culturally, we are moving into a golden
age of creativity and positive change. To solidify this pact, Jay Z
premieres the video to “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)”. The video shows
Jay Z putting to bed flashy chains, garments, ringtone songs, and the
controversial autotune. He’s dismissing all of the fake parts of our
culture that clog our mindset with illusions while reminding us to keep
it classy and keep focus on the roots. These are all great directions
to be moving in and it’s amazing to see them affecting mass culture and
planting the seeds that will create exponential waves of creativity…
moreover, all on the same day.

What a way to start off your week week than with NEW content from 3 of the heaviest hitters in the hip hop game – Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Jay-Z. Starting with the fomer, the brand NEW video premiere from Kanye is for “Street Lights” off 808s & Heartbreak. It doesn’t seem like an official single but the video takes a page from “Heartless” and emits the same vibe with its vivid animation. Some very cool effects as you’d expect. Most of the time, no exception above, I feel the animated videos are much more engaging and interesting.
Down below, a couple 30 second (okay… 29) snippets from Lupe Fiasco that will tease you even more for his upcoming 4th quarter album, Lasers. They’ve both got some clear and thought-provoking lyrics already with “Ladies & Gentleman”s production giving it the edge if I had 2 compare. Finally, Jay-Z’s “D.O.A. (Death Of Autotune)” gets some full video treatment below. Enjoy!
