GLC LIVE @ Wild Hare – FULL CONCERT

Sgt. Tibs posted May 29, 2009

GLC “Flight School”

The Wild Hare was the place to be on May 21st as Chicago hip hop once again took over the Wrigleyville venue. G.O.O.D. Music’s GLC was on hand, headlining the showcase which included other talented Chicago artists we promote like YP. It was GLC that everyone came to see and he didn’t disappoint to the max. capactiy crowd . Spinnin’ off his biggest records like “Big Screen” and “Flight School” (sans guest stars), GLC had the crowd goin’ with emotional messages in between about his family and friends and his life experiences in Chicago. He premiered a couple new jams as well – “The Big Knot” f/ Bump J and “Clockin’ Lotsa Dollars” f/ Bun B – but my personal highlight was his live performance of “Disperse” with Really Doe in the building to spit his verse also. Since both were goin’ back and forth, the energy was unmatched – something awesome to experience for easily my favorite GLC-featured record.

As a bonus treat for everyone unable to attend the show, take a look at ALL of his songs from our HD camera. Blast the volume, full-screen the video and get a sense for what it was like at the Wild Hare! Make sure to follow GLC more closely at GLCitymusic.com and follow his twitter.

And for those who missed a busy week at GWHH, check out our recap of Mickey Factz at the Wild Hare and our exclusive video interview w/ the Grammy-nominated Trey Songz! Enjoy!

Gowhere Hip Hop EXCLUSIVE Interview: Trey Songz

Sgt. Tibs posted May 26, 2009

GWHH back again with another exclusive interview as Sgt. Tibs sits down with Grammy-nominated R&B singer, Trey Songz! We discuss details on Trey Songz’ upcoming album, READY (in stores August 4th), the concept and inspiration behind the album’s current single, “I Need A Girl”, more information on Songz’ new group with the likes of Jermaine Dupri, Nelly, and Johnta Austin: Ocean’s 7, and Trey Songz’ favorite part about Chicago. Definitely a MUST-WATCH for any fan of music to get to know one of the most talented artists doin’ his thing today. Trey Songz doubles as one of my top 5 artists ever and it was a great thrill for Max G. and I to meet and talk to him so candidly. We would like to thank Trey Songz once again for all his cooperation along with Bobby Fisher and a special thanks to Nicole Pierce for setting it all up!

As an added treat for Trey Songz and new fans alike, make sure to hit the jump for the Top 5 *Tibs Favs.™ for Trey Songz RMXs. Songz seemingly jumps on every hot instrumental, showcasing his versatility and his talented rapping skills. If you don’t have those tracks and the current single, “I Need A Girl”, simply scroll below for the FREE downloads. Enjoy!

Top 5 *Tibs Favs.™: Trey Songz RMXs

5. Trey Songz “Itz Songz Snitches”

Yes Swizz, you shoulda put Trey on this one. Songz flips the iconic Swizzy lines into some of his own that u can’t help but sing along to: “Chillin’ in the Rover, listenin’ to Hova…”

4. Trey Songz “First Date Sex”

Jeremih’s “Birthday Sex” gets the RMX treatment for another clever interpretation from Songz. Highlights include Trey crooning “Beat It” like MJ and allusions 2 recent hits from Jamie Foxx & The-Dream.

3. Trey Songz “Swagga Like Songz”

Interesting how the top 3 are Kanye West productions, (hmm…) The first line is delivered with an unmatched amount of swag in the history of swag: “Who you think could do it like I does it, let’s discuss it, G’s respect him worldwide and the women wanna f*** him?”

2. Trey Songz “Bad News RMX”

This is a perfect illustration of Trey Songz’ growth as an artist, more specifically as a rapper. Songz seemingly fails to take a breath in the last 2 minutes with break-neck raps and a ridiculous flow to match. He blows away some of his already solid efforts back when he started the mixtape tracks back in ’07 with an interpretation of Pharrell’s album, In My Mind. Throw on some chilling background vocals to Kanye’s original for the first couple minutes and I can’t even touch the original anymore.

1. Trey Songz “Comfortable RMX”

Songz’ interpretation of Lil’ Wayne’s “Comfortable” narrowly edges “Bad News” for the cake. The production is a perfect compliment to his voice as Trey Songz creatively sings some rhymes and croons different choruses throughout to tell a very relatable story… and u get a clever ‘Family Guy’ reference 2 boot.

Yet another Five One RMX 2 kick off ur Thursday as the group goes in over a unique (2 say the least) production that u likely haven’t heard of. I’ll let Five One member, Green, explain:

“This song comes from Sam Sparro. We took the beat and made our own pop song out of a pop song with a hip hop reference to the first true internet rapper, Benefit, [from the] Napster days.. he made the Mario song…”

Make sure 2 snatch last week’s track as well if u haven’t already. Down below, more new audio including a solid 1st single from Chicago’s Mikkey Halsted (Shouts 2 Andrew) that I would like even more if the hook was improved. Charles Hamilton comes thru with another dark and emotional track and Jay Sean and Lil’ Wayne link up for a crossover collabo (thx 2 YK). Drake’s “Best I Ever Had”, the latest song 2 undergo way 2 many RMXs, gets some treatment from R. Kelly. Finally, LowKey sneaked some footage of screenings of a trio of video premieres: Kanye West’s “Paranoid” featuring Rihanna lookin’ fiiiine, The-Dream’s “Walking On The Moon” f/ Kanye West, and Fabolous’ “Throw It In The Bag” f/ The-Dream. Let’s see how soon the final videos get officially leaked 2 the net, haha. Enjoy!

The homie propaYne is back with another hot RMX – this time flippin’ the So Far Gone record from Rihanna’s rumored new beau. The young 17 16-year old wordsmith illustrates his promise in moments throughout this cut that he says is not worthy of a spot on his upcoming mixtape, The Experience. And if this isn’t good enough, then expect big things for what does make the mixtape. More info over at his spot – otakuswagger.com – one of the freshest artist blogs out there. Enjoy!

Scratch “Ready To Go” f/ Kanye West & Consequence

FULL, CDQ, Track off the upcoming album, Loss 4 Wordz *Tibs Fav.™

Props 2 Midnite @ HIF for this trio of can’t miss trax, starting off with some heavyweights as Kanye & ‘Quence join forces once again on Scratch’s upcoming album for “Ready To Go”. The record features both artists straight up spittin’ over a slow, somewhat laid-back beat that also evokes a rawness through the production. I wouldn’t go as far 2 say that this is Kanye West & Consequence’s best collabo 2gether, but it does have some pretty high standards 2 live up 2 already.

Down below, up and comer Tito Lopez drops some hot bars over Eminem’s first 2 singles off Relapse (in stores NOW btw..), dissing Rick Ross on “We Made You” (somethin’ about that track just ignites the disses, huh?). I like his version of “Crack A Bottle” better; his flow is more polished and he even drops a clever Jackie Joyner-Kersee reference. Baller. Enjoy!

S-Preme “Turn My Swag On RMX”

FULL, CDQ *Tibs Fav.™ *GWHH PREMIERE*

Back w/ some more NEW ish from S-Preme as the Chicago MC jumps on Soulja Boy’s addicting “Turn My Swag On” production for a fun Chicago-dedicated track. Don’t worry, he’s not emulating the Soulja Boy chorus; Preme just raps for 2 minutes – flowing effortlessly the entire time. Yet another track 2 grab from S-Preme to further see his versatility.

Down below, some new audio starting off with Naledge who cleverly introduces his alter ego “Dark Giangreco” (a take off the ABC Chicago sports newscaster – shouts 2 Andrew). Also included is some new Lil’ Wayne, a new Bobby Creekwater jam, and a HOT, uptempo hit from Riz. R&B fans should definitely check that one out. Note that while UserShare is currently down, all of 2day’s links are zShare.

Finally, the homie YP goes in with his first video for “I Hustle”, directed by Pugs Atomz and the 1st single off the upcoming project, Classified as well as Common delivering a somewhat funny Dow Jones skit. Links include: T.I. NOT serving just 2 months, Asher Roth diggin’ Relapse, Eminem returns for Detroit performance/release party, and Rihanna + Drake?!. Enjoy!

FULL, CDQ, Track off the mixtape, Welcome To Bad Boy, Vol. 1 *Tibs Fav.™

Props 2 Twista, who is the sole reason you should DL this track above from Red Cafe’s mixtape, Welcome To Bad Boy Vol. 1. It’s Twista at his best and his break-neck rhymes are only enhanced by a solid production. Definitely grab it so u can repeat Twista’s verse a few times before moving on, haha. The audio continues with the CDQ, Dirty version of 50 Cent’s new single “Ok, You’re Right (I Wish It Was 2003)” (scroll a couple posts down for more sarcastic commentary). Also worth mentioning is another Jeremih cut that you may like if you can relate 2 having ice and money *yawns* but at least his voice and swag are on point. Ocean’s 7, composed of Jermaine Dupri, Nelly, Usher, Trey Songz, Johnta Austin, B. Cox, & Tyrone Davis, has a new track that only Trey Songz kills (an alarming trend for a group of 7) as well as an absence of Usher and a good beat. Finally, you may do a double take on a Linkin Park song in the update, but the rock group has long been a favorite of Max G. and I so they get some GWHH love. Their new record is a more epic “What I’ve Done” that fits well for the Transformers 2 soundtrack. A couple videos round out the post with Consequence giving us a dope, inside look at “Mrs. Popularity”. Enjoy!
