The much anticipated Carter 3 has leaked everywhere it seems; we all await the impact on the world from the hyped up album. The self proclaimed “Best Rapper Alive” wants to sell 5 million copies, but in today’s blog driven society I feel it’s going to be difficult. I mean if you are the best then this album has to beat, nay be much better than, “Graduation”, “The Cool”, “Rising Down”, etc etc etc…… I will agree that the album is not garbage, but is it the BEST? Can you critique it in the same category as the albums I mentioned? You have too I guess….so I’d love to hear some people’s opinions on the album as most people probably already got it from some leak outlet. There will either be hate or love for the album, but what I’m interested in is an honest unbiased critique, because music is art, and we have to critique art.
The production on the album is real pro, which I expected from money bags Weezy; Kanye produced 25% of the album so I guess we know who Weezy thinks is the best producer! I wonder why Kanye wasn’t featured on the album….maybe Weezy was worried about being out shined; I mean Kanye did rip up the track when he spit on the Lollipop RMX. HMMM interesting…..I wonder if Kanye thought about that. The predominant theme of the album is how great Lil Wayne is (”3 Peat”, “Mr. Carter”, “Phone Home”, “Nothin On Me”, “Let The Beat Build)”, how he saved Hip Hop (”Dr. Carter”), how good he is with women (”Comfortable”, “Lollipop”, “Mrs. Officer”), and how rich he is (”A Milli”, “Got Money”, “La La”). Although these are all cool things to communicate, and even though Lil Wayne’s delivery is authentic and original and all that jazz……the envelope can still be pushed. In my personal opinion it has been pushed w/ the Graduation album, which raps about the truth in life vs. “I’m the best and I make the most money and get all women and that’s all that matters”; I guess in the latter Lil Wayne IS the BEST, and I can’t deny that, but there’s more out there and I’m not even hatin’. Tha Carter 3 does have a deep end though with “Tie My Hands”, “Shoot Me Down”, “Playin With Fire”, “Misunderstood” and the album just plain sounds ill and bumps super hard (if you like Weezy, which I do)!
I think in the end the album is a good one, and bumps hard, and is G, and Wayne didn’t let me down; I’ll play it when I want to be on some G shit. As far as being the best, none better, the end, period, game over; ……NO. It’s still up for grabs, and I’m still not convinced.
CHI TOWN STAND UP.
Here’s a few tracks that I like from the Tha Carter 3, even though I like em all (PRODUCTION IS CRAZY) except for “A Millie”, which is now annoying. BUT let me know what you all think of Tha Carter 3, either when it comes out June 10 or if you already got it now.
Excuse my french emotion and my passion, but i wipe my heart on my sleeve like it’s the new fashion.
What are you asking? If i don’t have the answer, it’s probably on the web like I’m a damn Tarantula. But I know you don’t understand, cuz’ you thought Lil’ Wayne was Weezy, but Weezy is Wayne. “

Above are the 30 second snippets of all the tracks off N.E.R.D.’s upcoming album, Seeing Sounds! A lot of the beats are captivating on first listen and they are all included on an mp3 that is about 5+ minutes long! Below u can find some NEW music from Chris Brown (2 tracks that will be on the re-release of Exclusive), T-Pain, & a dope Lupe Fiasco Interview with NBC Chicago! Couple quick CB notes… never was really high on “Picture Perfect” and the RMX doesn’t really add much IMO, but I do love CB’s new 3rd verse. And 2, I believe “Heart Ain’t A Brain” was included in the rush of trax that followed Exclusive after its original release in November… from the DJ Babey Drew leaks. This version is supposedly the full version that will be appearing on the re-release - Exclusive: The Forever Edition in stores next Tuesday, June 3rd! Oh also, if u’ve noticed, we haven’t been posting any of those fan-made videos on the Glow In The Dark Tour… well, we will post official videos, including the first one below as Kanye West addresses the Chicago crowd on 05.23.08, courtesy of MTV News. Hopefully a DVD will be coming well after the tour concludes! Enjoy!
Real quick update for me, then off 2 work and Common @ DePaul! Usher performance vids above that are pretty sweet as you’d expect and a couple NEW trax below f/ Ashanti & Robin Thicke and a large RMX f/ a bunch of guys by Rick Ross w/ Trey Songz on the chorus. Scroll and check out Max G.’s sweet post below! Enjoy!
On July 22, 1934, FBI agents shot John Dillinger, public enemy No. 1, at 10:30 p.m. in an alley by the Biograph Theater at 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue Chicago, IL. I just got back from being on the film set in Lincoln Park where they transformed the very same Lincoln Ave to look exactly like it did in the OLD SCHOOL 1930’s! Johnny Depp was there doing a million retakes of the scene where he (John Dillinger) gets shot in the alley. There was no detail overlooked on the set; even the theater is the very theater the actual John Dillinger got shot at. I heard that day, coppers dabbed their hanker chiefs in Dillingers blood as a souvenir from such a notorious criminal. (No sign of Christian Bale….) The movie “Public Enemies” is due to come out sometime 2009, shining light on some infamous 1930’s Chicago History. (Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Chicago old school Gangsters, partly filmed in Chicago, w/ Michael Mann directing! Can you get any better than that? No, no you can’t.)
For some music, Shout to DJ Triumph for the must listen remixes below; I usually don’t like DJ RMX’s, but I have to say Triumph did an exceptional job with the two below. Check that, and more out below!
Also going w/ the old school theme check Aubrey O’ Day of Danity Kane cover the 1 Year Anniversary Issue of J’Adore Magazine. Shout to J’Adore; very well done issue, and Aubrey looks very beautiful as well. (She should be in the movie, “Public Enemies” haha)
Daaaamn, FSD keeps droppin’ the old, unreleased material and above is another hot track featuring Chicago’s own Lupe Fiasco and the late Stack Bundles! I’m diggin’ the beat and of course the verses as BOTH Lupe & SB bring it, which creates a nice uptempo hip hop banger. Below is another hot NEW R&B track from one of the game’s best - Ne-Yo! I think this one will grow on u as it doesn’t have the instant appeal like “Closer”, but is a quality track nonetheless. I also threw up a couple videos including Lupe Fiasco goin’ Gold (looks like a surprise party for Lupe, haha. Congrats again Lu!) and a Common interview / Mos Def performance. Enjoy!
FULL, CDQ, 1999 (NEW) Track from lost album, World Record Holders*Tibs Fav.
Above is the latest from Go Getters, exclusively dropped from FSD. Go Getters, if u recall from last week, is the group consisting of Kanye West, GLC, Really Doe, & Arrowstar - a Chi-Town clique when they were all fresh in the game around 1999 and 2000. It is interesting 2 hear these trax, especially Kanye pre-accident, who sounds noticeably different. It’s some raw Chicago Hip Hop above so be sure to DL it!
The third (and final?) version of the “Flashing Lights” video has also hit the web and u can view it below! Admittedly, it goes over my head a lil’ bit on first viewing, but Kanye brings it with a deep and artistic perspective that his fans should respect. It is important to note that this “Version 3″ is the last 2 leak and hit the web, but it was in fact the first video Kanye & Co. shot for the song. They scrapped it and filmed the 2nd version that leaked last week, scrapped that, and released the one with Rita G. back awhile ago.
Scroll a lil’ more for a large batch of NEW trax featuring some big names like Usher, Lil’ Wayne, & Mario, but the one below that I’m feelin’ above the rest is the song by Danny Fernandes - an uptempo new-age R&B track with a sick beat, similar 2 Fernandes’ earlier hit “Curious”. Enjoy!
FULL, Limited DJ, Track from upcoming mixtape, The Testimony Of GemStones*Tibs Fav.
Above is the 3rd leaked track from GemStones looooong awaited mixtape, The Testimony Of GemStones! Still waiting on a date for the mixtape’s release as 2 dates have already come and gone without the release. Either way, the trax leaked so far have been ridiculous and this one is no exception. The dark beat sets the nice tone for GemStones 2 consciously spit his verses and Sarah Green enhancing the song with her background vocals in the verses and on the chorus. The lyrics explore the skeletons in ur closet, as one can imagine, the dark secrets and needs of us people. Definitely a MUST-DL cuz this song shows the depth and potential of GemStones! Enjoy!
In case u haven’t seen Gowhere Hip Hop’s lengthy, EXCLUSIVE interview with GemStones…
